After completing his first bird sculpture in 1977, Bobby won six Best of Show awards in professional competition in 1979, including the International Decoy Competition held in Iowa and the Gulf South competition in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was invited in 1980 to exhibit his carvings at the Waterfowl Festival in Easton, Maryland, and has been invited back every year. He exhibited there in November of 2007, making 28 years at this prestigious exhibit.

For many years, Bobby carved mostly lifesize birds, including several in flight, but in the last few years, he has concentrated mostly on miniatures. Bobby believes in being familiar with the subject he is carving; he has many good songbird photographs and photographs of waterfowl on our web site. Nature photography was a hobby long before he began carving.

Lifesize Eastern Bluebird Nest Box - Sold!

The Eastern Bluebird nest box featured in these two photographs is a lifesize wood sculpture, featuring the male bird as he checks out the surroundings before leaving the box to find food for his young. The sculpture may be featured hanging on one's wall, or resting in an easel. Since Bobby spends a large amount of his time photographing birds, he has many images of Eastern Bluebirds in this particular setting. He has watched several families of Bluebirds raise their young on our place the last few years. The photograph at left illustrates this special carving that will make a wonderful gift for that special person. The photograph below represents the carving from a different angle.
